There are many foreign people in this city. Someone don’t understand Japanese at all, but they go to the city hall and get the papers they need. They are brave and amazing. When I think about myself, I don’t think I could do what they do. But some Japanese believe Japan shouldn’t increase the number of foreign residents. They are called nationalists.
When we are only the hosts, our thinking becomes narrow and we may feel irritated.
But if we travel the world as guests, our thinking becomes wider and we can see things in a different way.
I think it would be better to imagine a world with no borders and no nationalities, and everyone could be a citizen of the world. Then we could live anywhere on earth without a passport. We are called cosmopolitans.
Someone like me, who thinks this way, should at least learn English. If I cannot understand English, my words don’t have enough power. So I have studied English at this school. What this school gave me was not English ability itself, but motivation. As long as you have the motivation to learn, You can improve your English by yourself.
If nationalists watch Japanese videos and write comments in Japanese, their voices don’t reach outside Japan. If they really want to say something, they should watch English websites and write comments in English. Whether you are a nationalist or a cosmopolitan, you should learn English well.
